What’s new – February 2019

Last month we saw a record number of schools re-subscribing to The Hub. ‘Excellent service', a ‘brilliant range of resources' and ‘regular updates' are just some of the reasons schools continue to subscribe. Take a look at the information below to make sure you are making the best of your Cornerstones licence this month.

New inspection framework

As many of you will know, Ofsted’s new draft education inspection framework(EIF) was released in January. It marks a significant shift in emphasis, as schools will now be judged on how well they have planned, implemented and measured the impact of their curriculum. The accompanying inspection handbooks are a must-read as they detail the new criteria and how inspectors will gather evidence. Have your say on the proposals here. We’ll be sending you an email this week explaining how Cornerstones helps schools address the new framework. Look out for this in your inbox but do give us a ring or email if you need any more information.

Ofsted praise

A massive congratulations to Squirrels Heath Junior School in Essex for their recent Ofsted report, which acknowledges the brilliant work they have done on their curriculum using Cornerstones.

Update! Six steps of curriculum design

Our Six steps of curriculum design resources are proving a popular new edition to The Hub. Taking on board recent updates from Ofsted, we have made some minor tweaks to bring them bang up to date. If you haven’t had a look at these materials yet, visit the Curriculum Design area of The Hub to download. If you would like help using the materials or one of our curriculum team to support you in getting started, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

The Curriculum podcast

Our podcast audience is growing fast (we even have a global following!), so a huge thank you to those of you subscribing and tuning in. In episode 33, Caroline talks to Sam Twiselton, Director of the Institute of Education at Sheffield Hallam University. Sam is a leading light in the education world, promoting teacher training issues and working on Ofsted’s curriculum group. Caroline and Sam discuss what makes a good primary curriculum and what schools need to consider in the months to come.

New! February assembly

Our new assembly for this month is Chinese New Year celebrated on the 5th February. Download this, and other February assemblies from The Hub.

New! Splendid Skies Innovate challenge

In order to become more environmentally friendly, we’ve recently changed our Splendid Skies Innovate challenge so that it no longer suggests a balloon launch. If this is one of the topics you teach, then make sure you visit The Hub to download your new Innovate board.
