Cornerstones Book Club – review of The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher

review of The Christmasaurus

The latest title to be reviewed as part of the Cornerstones Book Club is The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher. With Christmas just around the corner, it’s a perfect book for children of all ages in Key Stage 2.

Here’s what Waterstones bookseller Leilah Skelton had to say about the book…

Believe the impossible…

The Christmasaurus is the brilliant story of a young boy, a dinosaur, a Christmas wish, and an unforgettable adventure. It’s wrapped up in humour, tied thoughtfully with gently tugged heartstrings, and labelled for anyone who holds Christmas deep in their heart.

This book not only has all the trimmings of a good festive story (reindeer, elves, Santa, snow) but also the most marvelously wonder-inducing explanation of how North Pole elves REALLY work. (And, guys – it really *is* magic!)

In fact, Tom Fletcher's richly bonkers imagination radiates out of every page.

Readers might be more familiar with a certain defecating dinosaur, but it's clear from the outset that Tom’s harbouring a considerable talent for writing engaging, exciting and magical stories in longer form too.

And Shane Devries has skilfully matched the energy, pace and mood with beautiful illustrations throughout.

I’d pitch it at 5 to 12 year-olds, but emphasise that Christmas books are a joy at ANY age. Especially ones as good as this.

So, calling kids from one to ninety-two – this is the sort of book that will encourage, prolong, or rekindle the wonder of Christmas, wherever you find yourself in life. It's a small slice of wonder bound up in book form. And really, what better gift could you ask for…?
