Barefoot Computing at School, Available on Maestro

Developed by teachers for teachers, Barefoot Computing produces engaging and accessible computing lessons which are steeped in research and expertise. Their goal has always been to boost primary subject knowledge, save time and bring excitement into the classroom. Based on these shared values, our new partnership with Barefoot has led to us having a fully sequenced computing curriculum available on Maestro.

Barefoot Computing at School, Available on Maestro

Schools with access to Maestro will have the ability to deliver the computing curriculum using downloadable lessons and resources that have been mapped to the Cornerstones knowledge and skills framework. Barefoot’s lessons have been sequenced and grouped into projects for each year group to make adding them to your curriculum easier. Links to Cornerstones projects have been made in individual lessons where appropriate.

Areas of coverage include:

  • Staying safe online
  • Algorithms
  • Programming and debugging
  • Using data

Barefoot makes computing easy to teach and fun to learn, with or without a computer, and teaches children about the use of technology.

Tip: You will need to register on the Barefoot website and create an account to download the resources. Your account can be created free of charge. Barefoot also offers online guides and CPD workshops.

We are in a much better place with CM than with our old curriculum. We will be making it more bespoke in the second year.

I have used Cornerstones from its first launch. The product has been refined over time as it is driven by feedback from schools and teachers delivering the content. The company is also responsive to a school's needs.

Maestro is a real time saver, particularly for leadership teams and subject leaders. There is a wealth of information and resources which can be used and adapted by creative skills teachers. The way the curriculum is mapped is excellent and was commented on in a very recent Ofsted inspection.

I have recommended and told many other schools and school staff about it. I would always though suggest that they need to ensure it is right for their school setting and the needs of their staff and pupils.

It has been a revelation. Staff are finding their way through it and if we have any questions, the support from Cornerstones is amazing. We always get answers to our questions. It is now our one-stop-shop for curriculum with linked up thinking and approach through an intuitive and user-friendly system.
