Free winter resources

It’s almost that time of year again – nativity performances, carol singing, Christmas parties and glitter everywhere. So, just in time for this busy winter period, we’ve put together a pack of activities that includes clever crafting, treasure hunting, baking and problem-solving. Use as you see fit – the resources are intended for both key stages and children of all abilities.

Here are just some of the activities included:

  • Winter word searches – Challenge children to find a range of winter-themed words. Words can be written forwards or backwards.
  • Winter craft activities – Make a range of winter decorations, including a hanging snowflake, a pine cone bauble, paper fans, winter quills and a tree-shaped ornament.
  • Winter recipes – Children can enjoy making several winter recipes, including glittery snow dough, gingerbread people and bird food cakes.
  • Winter colouring – Encourage mindful concentration with these beautiful animal colouring sheets.
  • Winter treasure hunts – Get children up and moving. In KS1, children follow a picture map to find picture cards hidden around their outdoor space. In KS2, children follow picture cards and clues, finishing their treasure hunt with an optional comforting drink of hot chocolate.
  • Winter games – Encourage children to create games using the winter picture cards. Games might include snap, matching or memory games.
  • Winter poems – There’s haiku writing for KS1 and winter poems for KS2, starting with word work and finishing with creative writing.
  • Spot the difference – Challenge children to spot the differences in these winter-themed pictures.

We hope your children enjoy these winter wonders and that they help you a little bit along the way until the end of an exhausting term.

We are in a much better place with CM than with our old curriculum. We will be making it more bespoke in the second year.

Conrad Fox – Headteacher, Hunmanby Primary School, England

I have used Cornerstones from its first launch. The product has been refined over time as it is driven by feedback from schools and teachers delivering the content. The company is also responsive to a school's needs.

Lindsey Wain – Deputy headteacher, Hartburn Primary School, England

Maestro is a real time saver, particularly for leadership teams and subject leaders. There is a wealth of information and resources which can be used and adapted by creative skills teachers. The way the curriculum is mapped is excellent and was commented on in a very recent Ofsted inspection.

Charlotte Gibbins – Thurlstone Primary School, England

I have recommended and told many other schools and school staff about it. I would always though suggest that they need to ensure it is right for their school setting and the needs of their staff and pupils.

Kathryn – Teacher, Langton Primary School

It has been a revelation. Staff are finding their way through it and if we have any questions, the support from Cornerstones is amazing. We always get answers to our questions. It is now our one-stop-shop for curriculum with linked up thinking and approach through an intuitive and user-friendly system.
