10 Big Ideas – FREE home learning challenges for children and families

Are your children ready for an engaging home learning challenge? Something creative and thoughtful that broadens their awareness of wider concepts, yet is simple to do at home?

Well, look no further.

10 Big Ideas – FREE home learning challenges for children and families

The Big Idea weekly challenges are here!

Each week, we’ll release a set of Big Idea challenge cards. These are enjoyable, purposeful tasks that children can do independently or with family members while learning from home.

The challenges are linked to the Cornerstones Curriculum 10 Big Ideas, which are global concepts and themes that thread throughout our curriculum. The 10 Big Ideas are Humankind, Nature, Processes, Significance, Comparison, Place and Space, Investigation, Materials, Creativity and Change.

How to use them

We’ll release a new set of 12 challenges each week, centred around one of the Big Ideas. The first set is focused on the Big Idea of Humankind – what makes us human, the human body, emotions, how we interconnect, and so on.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The challenges are for Reception to Year 2 and for Year 3 to Year 6, but this is just a guide – you’ll know your children best.
  • Each challenge is designed to last between 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Download the challenges from this blog – see below. We’ll release each set of challenges on a Friday, ready to use the following week.
  • If you are a teacher, simply upload the challenges to your home learning platform or share via email or social media as a screenshot.
  • Choose at least one challenge every day.
  • Share your achievements with us! We’re on Twitter @Cornerstonesedu, Instagram @cornerstonesedu or Facebook.

We are in a much better place with CM than with our old curriculum. We will be making it more bespoke in the second year.

Conrad Fox – Headteacher, Hunmanby Primary School, England

I have used Cornerstones from its first launch. The product has been refined over time as it is driven by feedback from schools and teachers delivering the content. The company is also responsive to a school's needs.

Maestro is a real time saver, particularly for leadership teams and subject leaders. There is a wealth of information and resources which can be used and adapted by creative skills teachers. The way the curriculum is mapped is excellent and was commented on in a very recent Ofsted inspection.

Charlotte Gibbins – Thurlstone Primary School, England

I have recommended and told many other schools and school staff about it. I would always though suggest that they need to ensure it is right for their school setting and the needs of their staff and pupils.

It has been a revelation. Staff are finding their way through it and if we have any questions, the support from Cornerstones is amazing. We always get answers to our questions. It is now our one-stop-shop for curriculum with linked up thinking and approach through an intuitive and user-friendly system.
