Free Olympics projects for Cornerstones Hub users

Are you a Cornerstones Hub user? If the answer is yes then look out for our four free fantastic Olympics mini projects to help your school celebrate the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games! Here they are:

  • Tumble! – Nursery and Reception
  • Team! – KS1
  • Spirit! – LKS2
  • Champion! – UKS2

Each project has a different focus, inspired by the ethos of the Games. They also follow the Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express stage structure.

Like all of our ILPs, the projects are simple to use and flexible. They can be taught over two to three weeks, depending on the needs and interests of your class. Why not teach them before the end of the summer term, or even in September, after the children have enjoyed the Games?

Olympics - 2

A quick overview

For the EYFS, Tumble! is about all things gymnastic! Children will have opportunities to practise balancing, rolling and jumping techniques, all inspired by some amazing footage and some handy ‘how to’ videos.

For  Y1 and Y2 children, Team! invites children to practise and produce their own group dance routine, inspired by opening and closing ceremonies. Children will also find out about the importance of having a team mascot, team strips and the importance of working together.

Perfect for Y3 and Y4, Spirit! focuses on the ethos and mottos of sporting endeavor. Children will learn about diversity, the Paralympics and how sport can be truly inclusive. They will then plan their own special torch parade, to celebrate the spirit of sport!

Last but not least, is Champion! a super-charged project for Y5 and Y6 children. Find out what it takes to be a record-breaking sporting champion, learn how the body prepares and responds to exercise and analyse amazing statistics. Children are then challenged to set up a dynamic boot camp circuit for some willing adults!

Olympics - 3

All four projects come with exciting activities and a set of fabulous teaching resources, including videos, reading texts and stunning picture cards. There is also a colourful display banner for each project.

All projects give children opportunities to learn about the Olympic Games themselves, and explore the host city, Rio.

And if it suits your setting, the Innovate and Express stages lend themselves nicely to a whole-school celebration, to showcase the children’s learning and achievements.

The projects are now available on The Hub to all subscribing schools. Don’t miss out!
